Bonding over culture and traditions
Vino is a volunteer who was matched with Mary through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme earlier this year. Vino pays regular visits to Mary in her home where they share everything from laughter to delicious recipes.
‘I have the privilege of being part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme. Through this program, I’ve had the chance to meet some incredible people and form meaningful connections. One connection is with Mary, a kind-hearted woman whose story of love, loss and resilience has deeply touched my heart.
‘Mary has a wonderful talent for mimicry. She can imitate the voices and mannerisms of family members and friends with uncanny accuracy. This talent has always brought laughter and joy to our gatherings. Watching her perform her mimicry acts is a delight and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. Her mimicry skills have become a beloved tradition in our meetings, adding a touch of humour and lightness to our time together.
‘Our relationship is much like that of a typical Indian mother and daughter. We share a deep love for Indian vegetables and foods, and our visits are often filled with cultural stories and traditions.’
