A Heart of Gold: Rose’s 30-Year Journey of Care and Compassion

A lifelong caregiver, Rose is dedicated to helping others and for more than 30 years has been bringing warmth, joy, and companionship to residents every week.

For over three decades, Rose has been a familiar and cherished presence at Carinity Clifford House aged care community in Brisbane. Her journey began as a dedicated nurse, serving residents with warmth and professionalism for 22 years. But retirement didn’t slow her down—instead, it opened a new chapter of giving.

Now a volunteer for the past eight years, Rose visits Clifford House twice a week, bringing joy, companionship, and a listening ear to the older people residing there. Whether she’s assisting with activities, joining outings, or simply sharing a laugh over a cup of tea, Rose’s presence is a source of comfort and connection.

“I’ve always wanted to give back to the community,” Rose shares. “I’ve had a lifelong interest in elderly people, and now I have the time to do all the things I couldn’t while nursing. I love sitting down for a good chat or walking through the garden with them. They’ve lived such rich lives—we share stories and lots of laughs.”

Adding a touch of furry affection to her visits, Rose sometimes brings along her beloved dogs, Zues and Marley. Their arrival never fails to brighten the day.

“It’s so rewarding to see the residents’ faces light up when I walk in with a little dog,” she says with a smile.

Rose is a testament to the power of compassion and the lasting impact of community spirit. Her dedication continues to enrich lives, proving that even small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.
