Giving back to people who have done so much for their community

Val has been volunteering in aged care at Kalyra Woodcroft for close to 8 years, supporting residents with art and craft activities.

‘I used to be a hairdresser and when my mum passed away in a hospice, I wanted to give back to the community under her name.

'I enjoy giving residents a lift in their day, having a joke, listening to their stories and being able to build relationships with them, it’s so nice. Giving them the opportunity to share stories of their life has been amazing.

'It is a rewarding experience and a great way to give back to people who have given so much to us.’

Val is also appreciative of the support she has received while volunteering.

‘My coordinator Jillian has guided me through the whole process of volunteering and is always available to support, giving me the opportunity to grow and develop.

'I remember attending a volunteer march for Volunteers Day with her in the city and it was lovely seeing how many other people volunteer in South Australia. It’s a great effort.’

Make a positive impact to older people in your community by finding aged care volunteering opportunities.
