Aged care volunteer stories – Wendy

Aged care volunteer Wendy assists with admin, social support and food delivery with Nepean Food Services – Meals on Wheels™. She opens up about how volunteering got her out of the house after the loss of her husband.

Volunteering to make a difference

Wendy has been volunteering in aged care for almost 4 years and is currently assisting with admin, social support and food delivery at Nepean Food Services.

‘I moved to Penrith to look after my elderly mother after I lost my husband. I needed to do something else and volunteering was suggested to me. In my day-to-day role as a volunteer, I take phone calls and orders, upload vouchers, client re-assessments and files and am also a delivery driver.’

Wendy thoroughly enjoys her role as an aged care volunteer.

‘The staff are really easy to work with, I enjoy talking to clients, getting out of the house and keeping my skills up. I look forward to coming into the office, the staff are wonderful and really look after me.

'I’m not ready to sit at home and just look after my mother, I need more right now in my life. It’s really rewarding to make a difference and help someone through volunteering.’

Make a positive impact to older people in your community by finding aged care volunteering opportunities.
