Aged care volunteer stories – Sue

Aged care volunteer Sue gives her time to 3 different organisations. She opens up about the positive relationships she has built during her time as a volunteer.

Brightening lives through aged care volunteering

Sue has been volunteering in aged care for a year, giving her time to 3 different organisations. Her role varies at each, with no day looking the same.

‘I chat and sing, take residents for walks, play games, help with gardening and jigsaw puzzles. I deliver meals, pick clients up and drop them home – all while having a laugh. I sometimes even take my cat or dog to visit.’

Sue highly recommends aged care volunteering.

‘I have learnt so much from the older people I encounter. It makes me feel connected to my community and I come away feeling like I have made a difference and someone’s day brighter.

'It is wonderful to build relationships and see people blossom. One-on-one connection is a powerful thing, and I now see the people I come across as part of my extended family.’

Make a positive impact to older people in your community by finding aged care volunteering opportunities.
