Aged care volunteer stories – Dawn

Dawn brightens up residents by bringing connection, compassion and energy to older people in residential aged care in Bundaberg, Queensland.

Creating Connections: Dawn Brings Joy to Aged Care

After moving to Bundaberg from Gympie, Dawn didn’t hesitate to continue her passion for aged care volunteering.  Giving a few days each week, Dawn is a familiar and cherished face at Carinity’s Kepnock Grove and serves morning tea, assists with activities, and most importantly, brings companionship.

“I love communicating and spending time with residents,” Dawn shares. “Volunteering gives me the chance to learn from their stories and share a few laughs along the way.”

Her presence is more than helpful—it’s healing. Whether she’s helping a resident paint during art hour or simply sitting for a chat, Dawn creates moments of connection that make a lasting impact.

Staff say Dawn’s warmth and reliability make her an integral part of the community. “She brings a sense of calm and joy,” one team member notes. “Her kindness is contagious.”

Dawn encourages others to consider volunteering: “If you enjoy working with the elderly, it’s a beautiful way to give back. You’ll gain more than you give.”

At Carinity Kepnock Grove, Dawn isn’t just a volunteer—she’s family.

Make a positive impact to older people in your community by finding an aged care volunteering opportunity for you.
