We pay supplements on behalf of eligible care recipients to help approved providers with the cost of meeting specific care needs. Find out what supplements are available and who is eligible.

About Home Care Package supplements

For eligible care recipients, we pay supplements into their home care account held by Services Australia to help with the cost of meeting specific care needs.  

There are 2 types of supplements for Home Care Packages:

Eligibility

The eligibility and application process varies for each supplement.  

We automatically check eligibility for the top-up, veterans’ and viability supplements.  

For others, you are responsible for applying for the supplement on your care recipient’s behalf.

Primary supplements

The following supplements are available to eligible care recipients to meet their special care needs. These supplements may be affected by subsidy reductions.

The following supplements are not affected by subsidy reductions

Who decides the supplement rates

The Australian Government decides the supplement rates.

Supplement rate changes

The rates for the primary supplements and the viability supplement are indexed every year on 1 July.

Temporary leave

If a care recipient takes temporary leave from their Home Care Package, we may stop paying some supplements. It depends on how many days of leave they take.
