What is the supplement?
This supplement helps with the higher cost of providing aged care services in rural and remote areas.

Rates are higher for Home Care Package providers in more remote locations..
Eligibility is based on the location where your care recipient receives services.
From 1 January 2017, we use the Modified Monash Model (MMM) suburb and locality classification. The more remote the location, the higher the rating. Ratings of MMM 4 or higher are eligible.
For recipients who started packages before 1 January 2017, we continue to use the Accessibility and Remoteness Index of Australia (ARIA), but we will use the MMM if:
- the MMM gives a higher rate
- the care recipient moves to a new location.
The viability supplement must be included in the individualised budget of eligible care recipients.
Make sure you have provided a suburb and postcode in the location field for each of your care recipients. You can do this through aged care online claiming or on your claim form.
How to apply
If your home care recipient is eligible, payment is automatic. Services Australia will let you know in their payment advice to you.
Providers of flexible care automatically get this supplement as part of their subsidy or grant payment, if eligible.
If circumstances change
If a recipient changes providers and receives care in the same location, their viability supplement will transfer with them.
If a recipient moves, their eligibility will be recalculated automatically based on their new location.
