When this privacy notice applies
This privacy notice applies to the RBTIS tool.
This notice explains how we (the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care or the Department) manage personal information to meet our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Information we collect
We collect personal information about:
- aged care service providers and their staff
- people receiving Australian Government–subsidised aged care services. This information is de-identified before being uploaded into the RBTIS tool.
Why we collect this information
We provide this information to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC or the Commission) and the Department to support their regulatory functions and inform policy, respectively. The Commission uses this information to calculate relevant risk ratings for providers of residential and in-home aged care services and may take regulatory action, or intervene in other ways, for service providers considered to be high-risk.
Collecting this (de-identified) information is authorised either under the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission Act 2018 or the Aged Care Act 1997, depending on the source program or system.
How we collect this information
We collect this information through administering the following systems:
- Government Provider Management System (GPMS)
- My Aged Care System
- Australian National Aged Care Classification funding model
- Integrated Assessment Tool for the Single Assessment System.
Services Australia, the Department of Social Services, and the Commission also provide data to us to be uploaded into the RBTIS tool.
The personal information collected varies, depending on which system.
All personal information, from older people in Australia, such as names and addresses, is de-identified before data is uploaded to the RBTIS tool.
Who we disclose your personal information to
We will not disclose this personal information to any external parties, except for the purposes of calculating risk ratings using the RBTIS tool.

We house all the data for RBTIS within 2 data centres, located in Canberra.
