As a Program participant, you have 18 years from completing your medical course in which to complete 156 weeks (3 years) of Return of Service Obligation (RoSO). This 18-year period is considered plenty of time to complete RoSO while accommodating:
- significant periods of leave
- time spent working or training in ineligible locations.
You can only count paid leave that is accrued from rendering professional services towards the RoSO; you cannot count unpaid leave. However, please check your employment contract for the specific terms and conditions relevant to you.
Under the Program, there is no option to defer your RoSO and extend your bonded timeframe for periods of parental leave.
As a Program participant, you must accurately record your RoSO in BRoSS in compliance with the Health Insurance (Bonded Medical Program) Rule 2020. This includes updating your RoSO to accurately reflect any periods of leave which cannot be counted.
In most cases, you do this by completing your current part-time or full-time RoSO plan in BRoSS when you start your leave. You must plan and activate a new RoSO plan when you resume work. Alternatively, you may choose to record your work as a per-day RoSO plan. This requires you to input all hours and days worked, so periods of leave are captured within a single plan.
Your evidence for all completed RoSO work must:
- meet the requirements outlined in the Rule
- align with your RoSO plan in BRoSS.
