Using the Health Workforce Locator
We use the annually updated Health Workforce Locator to assess the RoSO eligibility of a location. To assess the eligibility of your queried location using the Health Workforce Locator, you will need to enter the full street address and select the correct classification filter.
Check the section below for your specific contract type. Entering your classification details as illustrated, as well as the exact address, will indicate location eligibility for pre-vocational training, vocational training and for specialists and general practitioners who have attained fellowship.
If your specialty isn’t listed on the Health Workforce Locator, please email us with the full street address of your queried location(s). We will use a separate set of statistics that is available to our team to assess the location's eligibility on your behalf.
Health Workforce Locator
2004–2009 contract (RRMA)
Pre-vocational
You must work in an eligible location within Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA) 2–7.
Please use the Health Workforce Locator and select the filter ‘RRMA’. If the location is classified ‘Rural Zone 2–7’, it is eligible.
Vocational and fellowed general practitioners
You must work in an eligible location within a Distribution Priority Area (DPA) located outside of an inner metro area.
To assess location eligibility for a GP, select the classification filters ‘Distribution Priority Area – BMP’ and ‘Inner & Outer Metro Areas 2014’. If the location is classified ‘Yes for BMP’ and is an outer or unclassified metro area, it is eligible.
Inner locations are ineligible regardless of BMP status.
Vocational and fellowed specialists
You must work in an eligible location within a Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA) 2–7, or if the location is RRMA 1, it must also be a District of Workplace Shortage (DWS) for your specialty.
To assess location eligibility, select the filter ‘RRMA’. if the location is classified ‘Rural Zone 2-7’, it is eligible. To assess the DWS status of your RRMA 1 location, select the classification filter ‘DWS for Specialists’ and select your specialty. A RRMA 1 location is a DWS if the location is ‘Yes’ for your specialty. If your specialty is not listed here, please email us.
2004–2009 contract with scaling DoV (RA) or 2011–2015 contract (RA)
Pre-vocational
You must work in an eligible location outside an inner metro area.
To assess location eligibility, select the classification filters ‘Inner and Outer Metro Areas 2014’. A location is eligible if the location is classified as an outer or unclassified metro area.
Inner locations are ineligible.
Vocational and fellowed general practitioners

2010 contract (RA)
Pre-vocational
You must work in a location outside an inner metro area.
To assess location eligibility, select the classification filters ‘Inner and Outer Metro Areas 2014’. If the location is classified as ‘outer’ or ‘unclassified’ metro, it is eligible.
Inner locations are ineligible.
Vocational and fellowed general practitioners
You must work in a Distribution Priority Area (DPA) located outside of an inner metro area.

2016–2019 contract (MMM)
Pre-vocational
You must work in an eligible location in a Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2–7 location.
To assess location eligibility, select the classification filters ‘Modified Monash Model 2019’ and add in location address details. A location is eligible if it is classified as MMM 2–7.
Vocational and fellowed general practitioners
You must work in a Distribution Priority Area (DPA) located outside of an inner metro area.
To assess location eligibility for a GP, select the classification filters ‘Distribution Priority Area- BMP’ and ‘Inner and Outer Metro Areas 2014’. If the location is classified ‘Yes for BMP’ and is an outer or unclassified metro area, it is eligible.

You must work in an MMM 4–7 location or if the location is a MMM 1–3, in a District of Workforce Shortage (DWS) for your specialty.
To assess location eligibility for specialists, select the classification filters ‘Modified Monash Model 2019’. If the location is classified as MMM 4–7, it is eligible.
