Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy for providers and workers

We support digital solutions that will improve the data and digital maturity of the aged care sector. They will reduce administrative tasks, enable secure information sharing, and provide immediate access to a person’s needs and history, ensuring higher-quality aged care services.

Benefits of the strategy for providers and workers

Our work under the Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy will support aged care providers and workers by:

  • enabling digital solutions that are user-friendly, simple, fit-for-purpose and compatible with government systems
  • providing secure ways to share care recipients’ data across health, aged care, allied health and other care sectors
  • providing instant access to current and accurate information about a person’s needs and care history, ensuring better coordinated and tailored care
  • making it easier to manage service demand and make decisions about the future of services through better use of data
  • reducing duplicate administrative and reporting tasks
  • providing more time for high-quality and connected aged care
  • providing access to guidance and support to use data and digital effectively.

Example journeys

In the strategy, we created a fictional example showing Jenny’s aged care journey as it overlaps with those working in the sector.

Anita

The example journey shows how the strategy supports aged care worker Anita through:

  • the free online hub with resources on digital and health literacy
  • Star Ratings for residential aged care, which enabled her to find a good place to work
  • an efficient screening process that uses compatible systems
  • tailored induction that takes account of her existing skills
  • digital tools that make her work easier
  • opportunities to upskill and develop new ways to provide care.

White Hills

The example journey shows how the strategy supports aged care provider White Hills Aged Care through digital systems that help to:

  • attract and retain workers
  • support workers with training options
  • manage operations to enable quality care
  • securely share care recipient information
  • reduce administrative tasks
  • automate data collection and reporting.
