Consultation for the QI Program

We consult when we review or plan to expand the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program (QI Program). Find out how to get involved.

New quality indicators for in-home aged care

We are developing quality indicators for in-home aged care. Developing a quality indicator program for in-home aged care will include:

  • an evidence-based literature review
  • national stakeholder and provider consultations
  • expert consultations
  • a pilot.

We’re consulting to decide on suitable quality indicators for in-home aged care.

The in-home aged care quality indicators will only apply to providers under the new Support at Home program. They will not start before 1 July 2026.

Consultation is open from 28 May 2024 to 9 July 2024. Anyone can contribute, including:

  • aged care providers and staff
  • older people, their families, representatives and carers
  • sector peaks, associations and unions
  • researchers and experts
  • people interested in Australia’s aged care system.

New quality indicators for staffing

We completed public consultation on 3 new staffing quality indicators in 2024. Several providers took part in a 6-week pilot to test potential new staffing indicators.

The Aged Care Engagement Hub will be updated soon with updates on what we heard from the consultation and pilot.

Who we work with

We are working with HealthConsult, the University of Queensland’s Centre for Health Services Research and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute  to:

  • develop and pilot the new staffing quality indicators
  • develop and consult on the new in-home aged care quality indicators.
