Aged care digital reform

Digital reform will support higher quality and better-connected aged care. We are supporting older people and aged care providers to prepare for digital change in 2025.

About digital change

We need to uplift aged care digital systems from 1 November 2025 in line with the:

Why digital systems are important

Our digital systems:

  • deliver services to more than 1.5 million older people in Australia
  • allow business management processes for aged care, including providers and assessors.

Digital changes we have made so far

We regularly update our digital systems to support the aged care reforms and improve the experience for older people, assessors, providers and health professionals. These updates are delivered across all My Aged Care portals, including the Service and Support Portal, Client Online Account, Assessor Portal, Aged Care Assessor App and Hospital Portal, as well as the Government Provider Management System (GPMS) and the My Aged Care website.

Recent release digital changes

On 23 February 2026, we released a range of updates across My Aged Care systems, including the Service and Support Portal, Client Online Account, Assessor Portal, Aged Care Assessor App, Hospital Portal and the My Aged Care website. These changes support the continued transition to Support at Home and improve assessment, approval and provider management processes in line with the new Aged Care Act.

Key updates include:

  • supporting the move from Short Term Restorative Care into Support at Home Restorative Care, removing manual workarounds and improving the accuracy of client information
  • ensuring Restorative Care Pathway episodes run for the full 16 weeks, with corrected dates and clearer communications
  • expanding access permissions so more provider staff can view and download Notice of Decision (NoD) letters, in line with program rules
  • updating Support at Home letters to ensure funding information is accurate and consistent, including clearer explanations of assistive technology and home modifications funding and remote supplement eligibility
  • enabling Assessors to generate and upload NoD letters for the Commonwealth Home Support Program, Multi-Purpose Service Program and National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program
  • simplifying how Support at Home providers manage pricing by allowing organisation level reference prices to be applied across outlets, reducing manual effort and improving accuracy.

Staged approach

We will continue to transform and improve digital systems in 2025–26.

Staging digital change allows:

  • the best results for older people
  • a smooth transition for the aged care sector.

Resources to understand when change will happen

You can check what digital changes are coming and how to prepare:

We will update these resources regularly.

Digital change for older people

Digital change:

  • will allow greater choice and control
  • will support registration, triage and assessment for aged care programs
  • do not replace face-to-face supports.

From 1 November 2025, older people may need to:

  • negotiate new service agreements under the Support at Home Program
  • update or create new supported decision-making relationships.

We are working with OPAN and COTA to support older people to understand:

  • the changes
  • what they will need to do.

Digital change for providers

Digital change will allow:

  • continued service delivery
  • provider payments
  • registered provider operation.

Providers will experience digital change over 3 stages in 2025.

From 1 November, providers will need to:

  • Review their registration category or categories.
  • Update provider details, including prices and services. These will be published on the My Aged Care website’s ‘Find a Provider’ tool.
  • Submit some forms and reporting through the Aged Care Quality
    and Safety Commission.
  • Update their digital interface with Services Australia to allow claims and payments, if they are using third-party software.

Providers can keep up to date on the digital transformation by:

Who we work with to manage digital change

We’re working with the Aged Care Transition Taskforce to support the sector to transition to the new Aged Care Act.

We’re working closely with the sector – including our Digital Transformation Sector Partners volunteer group – to co-design and co-deliver digital change.

Stay up to date
