Committees and groups

The Multicultural Health Advisory Group (Advisory Group) works in partnership with the department to advise on issues across the Health, Disability and Ageing portfolio to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for multicultural people and communities.

The National Aged Care Advisory Council provides advice to government on key matters relating to the aged care sector.

The National Autism Strategy Oversight Council guided the development of the National Autism Strategy.

The National Carer Strategy Advisory Committee supports the implementation of the National Carer Strategy and the National Carer Strategy Action Plan.

The National Health and Medical Research Strategy Interdepartmental Committee (IDC) supports the development of the National Health and Medical Research Strategy (National Strategy).

The National Health Emergency Management Sub-committee (NHEMS) of the Australian Health Protection Committee (AHPC) enables cross-jurisdictional collaboration on health emergency management in an all-hazards, all-incidents and all-consequences context with a focus on PPRR.

The National HTA Chairs Committee is made up of the chairs from the HTA expert advisory committees for medicines, medical services and medical devices. The committee works with the group of chairs to ensure that all committees discuss issues and make decisions using a consistent approach.

The National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) Advisory Group provides advice on program implementation, policy and governance for the program.

The National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) Expert Advisory Committee provides clinical advice on the quality and safety of the NLCSP.

The National Mental Health Workforce Strategy Taskforce developed a strategy that considers the quality, supply, distribution, and structure of Australia’s mental health workforce. The taskforce included members from across the mental health sector.

The National Nursing and Midwifery Education Advisory Network (NNMEAN) works with us and the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer. The NNMEAN gives advice on nursing and midwifery education and workforce issues.

The Strategy Advisory Group (SAG) provides advice on the development of the National Nursing Workforce Strategy.

The Strategy Steering Committee (SSC) oversees the development of the National Nursing Workforce Strategy.

This expert steering committee provides advice to help develop the National Preventive Health Strategy. Members are experts in the public health, research, health promotion, medical, allied health, nursing and consumer advocacy fields.

The steering committee informs decisions relating to the National Site of Recognition for thalidomide survivors and their families.

The National Women’s Health Advisory Council provides the Australian Government with advice and recommendations to improve health outcomes for women and girls in Australia. The council also provides advice on the implementation of the National Women’s Health Strategy 2020–2030.

The Natural Therapies Review Expert Advisory Panel (NTREAP) supported the Natural Therapies Review 2024. The final meeting was held on 10 December 2024.

The NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee (EAC) will give advice to government on the suitability of supports for funding under the NDIS. This was announced in the 2024-25 Budget, as part of the response to the NDIS Review.

The NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce provided advice to government on key design and implementation of new regulatory arrangements.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Reform Advisory Committee will give independent advice from people with disability on implementing reforms to the NDIS.

The Nurse Practitioner Steering Committee (NPSC) provided advice and expertise on the development of the Nurse Practitioner Workforce Plan.

The Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Reference Group (NMSRG) provides advice on relevant nursing and midwifery policy and strategy issues to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing through the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Division.

This Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) advised on research investments under the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) to improve outcomes for people experiencing Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC). PASC is also known as Long COVID.

We established this taskforce within our department to advise the government on how to respond to recent primary care and workforce reviews. The taskforce works with stakeholders to design and coordinate options for responses based on recommendations from the reviews.
