Reforms and reviews of the Multi-Purpose Services Program

We are working with state and territory governments and Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) providers to manage any impact of our broader aged care reforms. As part of these reforms, we are trialling the 24/7 registered nurse and care minutes requirements in MPS.

Reforms and reviews of the program

We are reforming aged care in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

We are working closely with state and territory governments and MPS providers to ensure that reforms impacting the MPS program:

  • are fit for purpose
  • do not result in unintended consequences
  • include adjustments where required
  • deliver positive outcomes for older people in rural and remote areas.

Trial of the 24/7 registered nurse (RN) and care minutes requirements

A trial of the 24/7 RN and care minutes requirement is under way in participating MPS in:

  • Queensland
  • South Australia
  • Victoria
  • Western Australia
  • Tasmania
  • New South Wales (24/7 RN only).

The trial will:

  • help gather information, test, pilot and tailor the 24/7 RN and care minutes requirements
  • ensure that older people in MPS can access the dedicated care time they need.

Participating trial sites must complete surveys and report on the trial.

States and territories participating in the direct care target trial have received additional funding.
