Committees and groups

The Genomics Health Futures Mission Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) advises the government on the research priorities for this Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) mission.

The Haemopoietic Progenitor Cell (HPC) Sector Clinical Advisory Group provides advice to support the implementation of the National Haemopoietic Progenitor Cell Framework. The framework will ensure future arrangements continue to improve access to HPC transplants for Australians.

The HCEF is an intergovernmental forum for joint decision-making and strategic policy discussions that helps to efficiently deliver health services in Australia. It is made up of the health department chief executive officer from each state and territory and the Australian Government.

The Health Ministers Meeting (HMM) works to progress health issues of national importance which require cross-border collaboration. It is made up of the health ministers of each state and territory government, along with the Australian Government Minister for Health and Aged Care.

The Health Roadmap Working Group is developing a roadmap to address the health and mental health inequities experienced by autistic people. The working group consists of a diverse range of stakeholders, including autistic people and representatives from the autism community.

The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Consumer Consultative Committee provides strategic advice and support to us and to the principal HTA committees. Acting as an advisory group, it brings consumer views into HTA processes and relevant matters.

The Australian Government announced the members of the Health Technology Assessment Review Implementation Advisory Group (the IAG) on 20 November 2024. The IAG will help guide critical reforms in response to the findings and recommendations of the HTA Review Report which was released in September.

The HWT provides advice and recommendations to the Health Ministers’ Meeting (HMM) on priority workforce matters. The HWT develops and oversees implementation of a range of workforce strategies to meet current and future health needs of Australians.

Several working groups are developing Healthy Food Partnership activities to improve the diet of Australians. The Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group oversees and monitors their work.

This working group developed the Industry Guide to Voluntary Serving Size Reduction (the Guide) to provide guidance and support to the food industry to promote and supply healthier serving sizes. This is part of the Healthy Food Partnership.

The Reformulation Working Group, which has now ceased, set the priorities for the Food Reformulation Program. This was part of the Healthy Food Partnership, which brings governments, the public health sector and the food industry together to improve the diet of Australians

The Executive Committee oversees the activities of 4 Healthy Food Partnership Program working groups and all program activities. Read more about the committee’s work.

This forum provides a mechanism for collective, voluntary action to support healthy choices in the quick service and food service sectors.

The HTA Review Reference Committee is responsible for overseeing the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Policy and Methods Review.

Established in 2023, the HIV Taskforce examines opportunities to eliminate HIV transmission in Australia and provide advice to the Australian Government.

The Implementation Plan Advisory Group (IPAG) is no longer active. It worked with the Australian Government to review, assess and guide action under previous the Implementation Plan for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2013–2023.

The Indigenous Health Research Fund Expert Advisory Panel (EAP) advised the government on the research priorities for this fund, which is supported by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

The Intellectual Disability Health Education and Training Expert Advisory Group was established in 2021. The group gives advice on the education and training related actions under the National Roadmap for Improving the Health of People with Intellectual Disability.

The Learning Health System Strategic Advisory Committee advises on the use of health data held in the My Health Record system for research and public health.

The LGBTIQA+ Health and Wellbeing 10-Year National Action Plan Expert Advisory Group informs the Australian Government about the health needs of people in the LGBTIQA+ community.

The Life Saving Drugs Program (LSDP) Expert Panel considers all applications to list new medicines on the LSDP. The panel assesses medicines and advises the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) about listing medicines. It also reviews medicines already on the program.

The MAIF Complaints Committee ceased on 28 February 2025. The Committee responded to complaints made against manufacturers or importers of infant formulas who had signed the MAIF Agreement.

This committee provides advice to the department on issues relating to the Prescribed List.

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Consumer Reference Panel (CRP) advised the Chief Executive Officer of the Health and Medical Research Office on strategies for strengthening consumer involvement in the MRFF.

The Medical Workforce Advisory Collaboration (MWAC) provides advice to Australian Government and state and territory health ministers, through the Health Workforce Taskforce, on medical workforce matters.
