Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee

The Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee (MWRAC) provides advice to the Australian Government and state and territory health ministers on medical workforce reform priorities.


The Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee:

  • supports and oversees the development of the National Medical Workforce Strategy
  • advises on possible reforms to medical education and training
  • considers modelling on medical workforce supply and demand, to advise on training needs and workforce capacity and requirements
  • advises on medical workforce distribution in Australia.


The committee has up to 30 members at one time, who are appointed for periods of 2 years.  

Membership rotates, to ensure a balance of medical specialties and expertise.

The Chairs must approve any member organisation that wants to remain on the committee at the end of its term.

The committee meets as required, up to 4 times per year.
