Policy work
Sports diplomacy
Our Sports Diplomacy 2030 plan uses our sporting excellence to enhance Australia’s reputation and build closer international ties. The strategy is a collaboration between the Australian sports codes, industry and government.
Sports integrity
We responded to the Report of the Review of Australia’s Sports Integrity Arrangements (Wood Review) by setting up Sport Integrity Australia. This body addresses threats to the integrity of sport.
National Sports Tribunal
The National Sports Tribunal was also set up in response to the Wood Review. The tribunal offers independent, cost-effective dispute resolution services to sporting bodies, athletes and support staff.
Supporting sport safety
We funded the Concussion in Sport Australia position statement. It ensures that participant safety and welfare is paramount when dealing with concussion.
We provide funding and support to improve water and snow safety.
Initiatives and programs
We fund programs to support the growth of sport in Australia.
We are working to increase participation in sport. We support schools, clubs and local government to deliver community sport.
We focus on increasing the participation of Australians who face barriers and are more likely to be inactive including:
-
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
-
newly arrived migrants and refugees
-
women and girls
-
people with a physical or mental disability.
We also support elite and high-performance sport. Successful elite athletes inspire people to take up sport. Sport Australia's grant programs also support athletes, coaches and organisations.
We work with event owners, organisers and host jurisdictions to support the successful delivery of major sporting events, which leave lasting legacies.
Who we work with
We work with a range of government agencies to ensure we have a fair sports system that everyone can take part in.
