Sport

Participating in sport and physical activity helps Australians to enjoy healthier, happier and more productive lives. It also helps to bring communities together and benefits the local economy. Find out what we’re doing to support community and elite sport in Australia.

Major sporting events

The Office for Sport coordinates the Australian Government’s involvement in the bidding and hosting of major sporting events.

Community sport

Community sport provides the opportunity for as many people as possible to participate in sport. We support community sport through grants and programs.

Elite and high-performance sport

Our champion athletes are role models and a major influence in our goal to be the world’s most active nation.

How we support sport

We work to maximise the health and economic benefits of sport in Australia. We also protect the integrity of sport, support elite athletes and help to bring major sporting events to Australia.

Upcoming major sporting events

Leading into the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games, Australia is hosting a number of events. This green and gold decade of events provides an unprecedented opportunity to inspire the next generation as our athletes strive for excellence in their own backyard.

The new Plan will replace Sport 2030. Public consultation on the plan will commence shortly. Further details about the consultation will be available through the Department of Health and Aged Care Consultation Hub.
