Doctors receiving payments under the Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) Doctor Stream have some basic obligations.
Keep your details up to date
You must keep your address and bank details up to date with Services Australia.
Services Australia automatically sends your Doctor Stream payments to your nominated bank account. If you have not nominated a bank account, Services Australia will write to you to ask for one.
You must provide your bank details within 60 calendar days of the date of the letter. If you do not, the payment will lapse and you will not receive it.
You do not need to lodge your bank account details again if you have already lodged them with Services Australia for either the:
- Doctor Stream
- General Practice Rural Incentives Program (GPRIP).
Provide or update your details using either of the following:
Health Professional Online Services
HPOS offers health professionals a single entry point to perform a range of business and administrative tasks with Services Australia.
You access HPOS with your Provider Digital Access Account (PRODA). If you do not already have one, you can create a PRODA account online.
To view your Doctor Stream information:
- log on to HPOS
- select the ‘My programs’ tile
- select the ‘Workforce Incentive Program – Doctor Stream’ tile.
Through HPOS you can then:
- view your service history (active and inactive quarters)
- view your payment statements
- update bank details
- receive notifications for your mail services.
Updates made online in HPOS are visible and take effect immediately.
Keep your MBS billing submissions up to date
Services Australia calculates Central Payment System (CPS) payments based on eligible MBS services billed at the end of each quarter. These payments are based on the eligible services that Services Australia has processed during the quarter, regardless of the date of service.
It is your responsibility to ensure your MBS billings are submitted in a timely manner. This makes sure your eligible activity in each quarter is captured for the purposes of tracking active quarters for the Doctor Stream.
Stay current with the guidelines
The WIP guidelines are updated regularly and eligibility may change. When applying for an FPS payment, make sure you are referring to the latest version of the guidelines.
Doctors are responsible for ensuring they are operating under the current guidelines. We will not consider any claim for loss of payment or any other loss as a result of a doctor failing to operate under the current version of the guidelines.
