Changes to fee and accommodation arrangements for residential aged care

A resident’s fee and accommodation arrangements may change if they exit care for more than 28 days or choose to opt in to the new fee arrangements.

Information on how opting in works from 1 November 2025 will be provided soon.

For a resident on pre-1 July 2014 arrangements, their fee and accommodation arrangements can change if they:

  • exit care for more than 28 days between moving services
  • choose to opt in to the current 1 July 2014 arrangements before 1 November 2025.

If a resident spends more than 28 days outside of residential care (other than on approved leave), the current 1 July 2014 fee and accommodation arrangements will apply when they enter the new service.

If a resident enters a new service within 28 days, the fees and accommodation costs from before 1 July 2014 will continue to apply unless they opt into the 1 July 2014 arrangements.

To opt in to the 1 July 2014 fee arrangements, a resident must:

If a continuing care recipient intends to move into your service, you must:

It's important for a resident to get financial advice before they make the decision to opt in. This decision can't be reversed and must be done correctly the first time.
