The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) has supported volunteer visits to older people for 30 years. From 1 July 2023, the CVS will become the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS).
Become a CVS volunteer visitor
Volunteering as a community visitor can be a rewarding and life changing experience. By befriending an older person, you can make a positive difference to their lives as well as your own.
People receiving aged care services come from all different social and cultural backgrounds and we encourage volunteers from all backgrounds to join the program.
CVS volunteers must be 18 years or over and undergo a National Criminal History Record Check. Police checks are valid for 3 years and must be renewed for continuing volunteer visitors.
Volunteers usually visit once a fortnight for an hour that suits both the volunteer and the person receiving aged care services. Volunteers can visit the older person in:
- their own home
- their aged care home
- a public venue.
We have CVS network members for each state and territory who match volunteers with older Australians in their local area. If you’re interested in becoming a visitor, contact your local CVS network member.
