Bonded Medical Program for medical students

Learn about your obligations as a medical student in a bonded university place.

What you need to do

If you accept a bonded Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) in a course of study in medicine at an Australian university, you must agree to participate in the Program by 30 June in your first year of study.

If you choose to enrol in the Program, you are legally bound by:

If you do not agree to participate by 30 June in your first year of study, you will lose your bonded CSP.

You must register your agreement to participate through the Bonded Return of Service System (BRoSS). This is our web portal that helps you plan, monitor and manage your RoSO and obligations under the Program.

As a medical student, you must:

  • log into BRoSS every 6 months to update your details, such as a change in email address. Please do not use your university email address as this will be terminated when you graduate
  • update your medical course timeframe when changes occur, such as deferring or repeating a semester. This will also require you to update your ‘Internship training starting date goal’ in your 'Completion of medical course' advisory
  • register at least one RoSO plan in BRoSS before you graduate
  • update your 'Completion of medical course' advisory once you graduate
  • after graduation, provide your provisional Ahpra registration and internship commencement details
  • report key study and career milestones.

You are responsible for ensuring your BRoSS record is kept up to date.

How to register your initial RoSO plan in BRoSS

As a participating student, you must register a RoSO plan in BRoSS before completing your medical course.

While you may not be certain where you intend to undertake RoSO, you must still record a ‘placeholder’ RoSO plan. This mandatory requirement is detailed in section 16(1) of the Rule

You must create at least one RoSO plan which can start from your internship onwards. You can update this RoSO plan at any point. For this plan to convert to credited RoSO, you must activate it and complete, with evidence uploaded.
