Immunisation coverage rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children

The national coverage rate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander five year olds was 95.23% at June 2024, above the target of 95% and the highest immunisation rate of any age group. The coverage for one year olds is 90.29%, while the coverage rate for two year olds is 88.77%.

We have again exceeded the target of 95% coverage for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander five year olds.

As at June 2024, the coverage rates were:

  • 90.29% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander one year olds
  • 88.77% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander two year olds
  • 95.23% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander five year olds.

One jurisdiction (Tasmania) has exceeded the 95% target rate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander one year old immunisation coverage.

States and territories have not yet achieved coverage rates above the aspirational target of 95% for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander two year old immunisation coverage.

Coverage rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander 5 year olds

Six of the state and territories (Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria) have exceeded the 95% target rate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander five year old vaccination.
