Independent Evaluation of YPIRAC initiatives

The evaluation assessed the effectiveness of Australian Government-funded initiatives introduced since 2019 to reduce the number of younger people in residential aged care and lessons learned to inform future policy considerations.

The independent evaluation of past and current YPIRAC measures (evaluation) to inform future initiatives was a 2023-24 Budget measure.

The evaluation sought to find out whether the initiatives meet the needs of younger people and their intended outcomes.

The Government’s efforts have supported reducing the number of YPIRAC. This includes:

  • measures to limit entry to residential aged care
  • more options within the NDIS
  • improved navigation support for younger people.

Initiatives have helped reduce the number of younger people entering residential aged care where options are available.

The full evaluation report and a summary version are available in accessible word and pdf formats. Easy Read will be available shortly.
