What we report on
We report the following data for the Remote Area Aboriginal Health Services (RAAHS) Program:
- Annual expenditure on medicines
- Patient-Specific Medicine Supply Fee (PSMSF) – Quantity and Value
- Number of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) items supplied.
We report this data for each state or territory with participating Aboriginal health services (AHSs) in remote areas.
We do not report on ACT and Victoria because they do not have any remote area services.
Why we report
We report on data and expenditure, to ensure the program is as transparent as possible.
Expenditure and quantities supplied data
We publish data for the most recent 5 years on this website. You can view older data on Trove, the National Library’s web archive.
The data and expenditure provided are accurate as at the date of extraction and are subject to change at any time as a result of adjustments and reporting requirements. All data is reviewed quarterly and updated in February, May, August and November each year.
The expenditure amounts:
- are based on all claims paid by Services Australia
- do not include GST
- are rounded up to the nearest dollar.
The PBS items supplied amounts are:
- based on reports by approved suppliers
- the amounts supplied to approved AHSs – not the numbers dispensed to patients.
Patient-Specific Medicine Supply Fee Data
The PSMSF is a fee paid to approved suppliers for supplying pharmaceutical benefit items to an approved AHS for an individual patient, which is supported by a PBS or RAAHS Prescription.
Important Information
The PSMSF supply quantity is already incorporated in the total Number of PBS items supplied, which represents the actual volume of items supplied under the program. For reporting purposes, the PSMSF supply quantity has been listed separately. Note that the Number of PBS items supplied and the PSMSF supply quantity should not be combined, as this would result in an incorrect total.
To calculate the total annual expenditure for each financial year, the annual expenditure and the PSMSF supply value must be combined.
