Planning and advisory body

Action One of the National Medical Workforce Strategy 2021–2031 recommends establishing a joint medical workforce planning and advisory body. This body needs to have enough authority and expertise to advise and make recommendations about the size and structure of the medical workforce.

Australian Government and state and territory governments have agreed on new medical workforce governance arrangements. The Medical Workforce Advisory Collaboration (MWAC) was established in August 2024.

Current advisory committee

The Medical Workforce Advisory Collaboration will contribute to:

  • coordinating the medical workforce to meet the needs of communities around Australia
  • identifying, discussing and advising on emerging medical workforce issues.
