Governance of the National Medical Workforce Strategy 2021–2031

Learn about the governance guiding the implementation of the strategy.

Planning and advisory body

Action One of the National Medical Workforce Strategy 2021–2031 recommends establishing a joint medical workforce planning and advisory body. This body needs to have enough authority and expertise to advise and make recommendations about the size and structure of the medical workforce.

Australian Government and state and territory governments have agreed on new medical workforce governance arrangements. The Medical Workforce Advisory Collaboration (MWAC) will be established in 2024.

Current advisory committee

In the meantime, the Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee (MWRAC) continues to:

  • support implementation of the strategy
  • provide advice on medical workforce reform priorities.
