Governance of the HTA Review

Learn about the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Review’s terms of reference and the role of the HTA Review Reference Committee in carrying out the review.

Terms of reference

The terms of reference sets out:

  • the background to the HTA Review
  • how the HTA Review will take account of recent and concurrent reform processes that impact HTA
  • HTA Review goals
  • areas under consideration by the HTA Review.

The final terms of reference took into account feedback from a range of stakeholders. A list of stakeholders the reference committee sought feedback from is available in the 1 December 2022 and 19 December 2022 meeting communique and includes:

  • patients
  • consumers
  • industry
  • advisory bodies
  • Commonwealth and state and territory governments.

HTA Review Reference Committee

The HTA Review Reference Committee oversaw the HTA Review. This included:

  • agreeing on the HTA Review’s terms of reference
  • agreeing on HTA experts to support the HTA Review
  • overseeing public consultations and considering submissions
  • overseeing the analysis undertaken by commissioned experts in HTA
  • preparing the final review report and recommendations.
