Eligibility
To participate on the AMDS Program, you must:
- hold temporary or permanent residency in Australia
- be a prescribed medical practitioner actively working towards specialist registration in general practice with the Medical Board of Australia.
- hold limited, provisional, or general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- hold a current Level 1 Advanced Life Support course completion certificate.
- have at least 2 years postgraduate experience in paediatrics, accident and emergency, medicine and surgery.
If we approve your application, we will grant you an initial AMDS program placement of 3 years.
If you would like to continue on the AMDS program you must be enrolled in a 3GA training program at a practice during the day and actively working towards specialist registration in general practice with the Medical Board of Australia.
If we approve your application, you will be granted a subsequent AMDS program placement for up to 1 year providing your AMDS service provider has a current Deed of Agreement.
The maximum period you can participate on the AMDS program while working towards specialist registration in general practice is 10 years.
You can work for more than one AMDS Service Provider at a time. Talk to your Service Provider if you are taking part in another workforce or training program and wish to participate in the AMDS program.
How to apply
You can apply any time by:
- discussing work opportunities with an AMDS service provider
- submitting an Approved Medical Deputising Services (AMDS) program – Application form for a doctor placement to your chosen AMDS Service Provider. Do not send your application to us. You can use this form for an initial application or a subsequent application.
Your AMDS Service Providers will assess your application against the AMDS program guidelines and apply to us for your placement.
We will make the final decision on your eligibility to participate in the AMDS program and advise your AMDS Service Provider of the outcome.
