About the exposure draft consultation
On 14 December 2023, we released an exposure draft of the Bill for the new Act for public consultation.
The consultation ran until 8 March 2024, during which we sought feedback from everyone with an interest in aged care, including:
- older people, their families and carers
- aged care providers and workers
- advocates and representatives
- volunteers
- researchers
- experts
- sector peaks, associations and unions.
During the 12-week consultation, we:
- received over 320 submissions and more than 800 surveys
- heard from more than 10,000 people at our 3 webinars, 42 workshops and 5 roundtables.
The feedback we have received during this consultation is being used to inform final drafting of the Bill for introduction to Parliament.

About the foundations consultation
From August to September 2023, we consulted on the foundations of the new Aged Care Act with:
- older people, their families and carers
- aged care providers
- aged care workers
- sector peak organisations.
We received feedback from:
- 1,330 people who attended a webinar
- more than 400 people who attended workshops and roundtables
- 291 people who responded to our survey.
The feedback we received from this consultation informed our drafting of the Bill for the new Act.
