We encourage all aged care homes to offer residents and their representatives Monthly Care Statements from October 2024.

This is a voluntary opportunity to improve communication before Monthly Care Statements become mandatory.

Voluntary Monthly Care Statements can be written or verbal.

They are a great way to keep residents and their loved ones informed about their care and service needs. They also help providers review care management plans and can reduce the risk of complaints.

Over the coming months we will publish information about:

  • how to start giving written or verbal Monthly Care Statements
  • a pilot of digital solutions for Monthly Care Statements
  • when Monthly Care Statements will become mandatory.

We are introducing the statements in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
