Good aged care design can improve quality of life for residents and working environments for the people who care for them.
The ‘Reimagining Where We Live’ design ideas competition challenged architects and designers to help shape the aged care accommodation of the future. An expert jury with experience in architecture, design, and aged care, judged the competition entries. They received input on the shortlisted designs from 6 advisers who are living with dementia.
The jury selected 4 winners showcasing innovative designs that are welcoming, safe, accessible, dementia friendly and consider small-home models.
The competition helped to test and refine the draft National Aged Care Design Principles and Guidelines. The final Principles and Guidelines will commence from 1 July 2024.
