The Bonded Medical Places Scheme has closed to new applicants. Existing participants can either continue with this scheme or opt in to the more flexible Bonded Medical Program.

The Bonded Medical Program helps address the shortage of medical professionals in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia. It provides a Commonwealth Supported Place in a medical course in exchange for participants working in those areas after they graduate.

This initiative invested $10 million in research to help promote good health practice, prevent disease and keep people out of hospital.

We recently reviewed the BreastScreen Australia Program to consider new evidence, support consistency in service delivery, and increase program participation across Australia.

BreastScreen Australia is a joint initiative of the Australian and state and territory governments and aims to reduce illness and death from breast cancer by detecting the disease early. Women over 40 can have a free mammogram every 2 years and we actively invite women aged 50 to 74 to screen.

The Australian Government is investing $7.9 billion to expand eligibility for MBS bulk billing incentives and to establish the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program. These measures support general practices to bulk bill all Medicare-eligible patients for eligible services from 1 November 2025.

The Cardiovascular Health Mission is investing $220 million. It brings together researchers, health professionals, industry and patients to make transformative improvements in heart and vascular health and stroke for all Australians.

The care finder program provides support for vulnerable older people to interact with My Aged Care, access aged care services and access other relevant supports in the community.
