  • personal care workers
  • allied health professionals.

Nurses play an integral role in providing high quality care for older people. Opportunities aim to enable nurses to develop their careers in the aged care sector.

Opportunities available to nurses include:

Registered Nurses’ Payment

The Aged Care Registered Nurses’ Payment rewards clinical skills and leadership. Registered nurses working for the same aged care provider over the eligibility periods can receive the payment.

Transition to Practice Program

The Aged Care Transition to Practice Program supports new aged care nurses with training and professional development opportunities.

Participants receive specialist training in aged care nursing and mentorship from senior nurses.

Scholarships

We are expanding the Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Program to include 1,500 new scholarships from 2020 to 2024.

This includes a guaranteed minimum of 20 scholarships per year for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

You may be eligible if you are studying a:

  • Graduate Certificate
  • Graduate Diploma
  • Masters Degree.

The course needs to be relevant to:

  • the care of older people
  • leadership and management.

Clinical placements

Bachelor and Master of Nursing students can receive support to gain high-quality clinical placements in the care and support sector, including:

  • aged care
  • veterans’ care
  • disability support.
