What vaccinations should I get for winter? There are two vaccines you might need as winter gets closer, these are the influenza or flu vaccine, and the COVID vaccine. The first I talk about is the flu vaccine. We are all going to be a bit more vulnerable to influenza or flu this year because there hasn't been much around in the last couple of years. One of the most important things you can do to stay safe from influenza is to get vaccinated. The best time to get the vaccine is before June which is the usual peak of the flu season. To get an influenza vaccine you can go to many places, including your GP your pharmacist or indeed a community health centre. You really should talk to your GP to find out if you're able to get a free influenza vaccine. You also may need a COVID vaccine. There's lots of COVID in the community at the moment and some people are getting very, very sick. COVID vaccines provide really good protection against getting very, very sick from COVID-19. So you need to stay up to date with your COVID vaccines. And this is a great way to protect yourself. The COVID vaccines actually free in Australia. Three doses of the COVID vaccines are recommended for most people. However, a fourth winter dose is recommended for some people. If you're not sure how many vaccines you should have, you should speak to your GP. You can get your COVID vaccine and influenza vaccine at the same time.
