Description:

In August 2021, we engaged Healthcare Management Advisors (HMA), partnered with Kristine Battye Consulting (KBC) to conduct a review of the RPGP and the PIP Procedural GP Payment.

The review was to explore ways to integrate the goals of the programs into a single administrative model. It also covered how we can adopt a wider range of non-procedural advanced skills into program operations.

Following consultation on the Review of the Rural Procedural Grants Program and the Practice Incentives Program Procedural GP Payments an update was made to the Rural Procedural Grants Program, including:

  • Re-introduction of eligibility for overseas training. This takes into consideration the value and unique training experiences that may be available overseas.
  • Continuation of online training. Online training was proven to be a successful alternative to face-to-face training for GPs in remote communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Online training will be continued under RPGP for GPs in very remote communities (MM4-7 locations).

Full details can be found in in the Rural Procedural Grants Program guidelines.

Further modifications based on the review will be considered in conjunction with the Effectiveness Review of General Practice Incentives.

We will use the findings from this review to consider the future amendments to the program(s).
