Description:

The Department of Health and Aged Care engaged the University of Wollongong, to deliver a Baseline Report for the Woman-centred care: Strategic directions for Australian maternity services (Woman-centred Care Strategy).

This report outlines existing activities and outcomes under the Woman-centred Care Strategy against which future findings will be considered. Specifically, it:

  • Provides an update on progress against implementing and evaluating the strategic directions and enabling activities of the Strategy since its endorsement in 2019;
  • Identifies barriers and enablers to implementation and evaluation;
  • Uses existing data sets to report on trends, including adverse outcome indicators.

This report is designed to be used as reference point for comparison in future monitoring and evaluation of the Woman-centred Care Strategy. Baseline information was compiled from qualitative and quantitative sources, drawing on a stakeholder consultation process and public reporting on the National Core Maternity Indicators.
