With this agreement, the Government and the RACGP have committed to shared principles that support a stronger health system. These principles include being accountable for structural reform out to 2020–21.

The Government’s statement of intent recognises the important role of GPs in the health system. It also includes actions it will take on indexing the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

The RACGP’s statement of intent includes:

  • continuing to support and engage with the MBS review process
  • supporting long-term workforce reform
  • encouraging GPs to use My Health Record
  • improving quality in general practice
