With this agreement, the Government and the AMA have committed to shared principles that support a stronger health care system in 2017–18 and beyond.

The Government’s statement of intent recognises the important role of general practitioners (GPs) and medical specialists. It also includes actions it will take on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

The AMA’s statement of intent includes:

  • continuing to support and engage with the MBS review process
  • encouraging members to use My Health Record
  • supporting the Health Care Homes concept and trial
