The plan aims to progress strategies and actions that: 

  • improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples  

  • prevent and address systemic racism and discrimination in the health system. 

The plan addresses the effectiveness of the health system across: 

  • maternal health and parenting 

  • childhood health and development 

  • adolescent and youth health 

  • healthy adults and healthy ageing.  

The plan is being developed in phases. This plan focuses on the Australian Government’s role in ensuring the health system: 

  • is flexible to respond to identified needs 

  • supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make healthy choices 

  • provides culturally safe access to quality early intervention and 

  • treatment services and integrated clinical service 

  • is free of racism.
