Description:

The Evaluation Strategy provides the overarching strategic direction to guide departmental evaluation activities to ensure that resources and efforts are allocated effectively and efficiently to activities that will deliver outcomes as intended.

It is aligned with other work happening across the Australian Government. The Government’s APS Reform Agenda, the Commonwealth Evaluation Policy, and the new Australian Centre for Evaluation provide us with strong support in achieving the Strategy’s vision.

The Strategy provides the direction and path forward to help us tackle major challenges from strengthening Medicare through to understanding the key issues around aged care, mental health, primary care and health workforce planning.

The Evaluation Strategy reflects the need for cultural change - a much-needed shift away from a culture where evaluation is conducted as an afterthought, towards one where evaluation is an integral component of sound performance management.
