Cognitive Impairment Scale (PAS)

This scale is part of the Psychogeriatric Assessment Scales (PAS). Aged care providers can use this to test cognitive impairment of care recipients. It includes the questions and the scoring method.

The Cognitive Impairment Scale performs well as a screening test for dementia.

Someone who is poorly educated or not very intelligent may get a high score on the Cognitive Impairment Scale. This high score might reflect lifelong cognitive difficulties rather than the beginning of a decline.

For how to use this scale, read the PAS User Guide.
