Trachoma is the world’s leading infectious cause of preventable blindness. In Australia, it affects mostly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This document reports on the prevalence of trachoma in Australia in 2018.

The National Trachoma Surveillance and Reporting Unit – which operates from the Kirby Institute at the University of New South Wales – prepared this report.

It is part of a national program to monitor the prevalence of trachoma in Australia as part of the World Health Organization’s Alliance for Global Elimination of Trachoma.
