In 2022, governments across Australia eased COVID-19 pandemic-related community and border control measures. As social interactions increased, the rate of some common vaccine-preventable diseases, especially influenza, also grew. There were also significant outbreaks of 2 newly emerged diseases, Japanese encephalitis and mpox (formerly known as monkeypox). The responses to these new Communicable Disease Incidents of National Significance (CDINS) included establishing vaccination programs against these diseases.
