2020–21 medical indemnity universal cover annual report

In the 2020–21 financial year, medical indemnity insurers reported a total number of:

• 24 refusals to provide professional indemnity insurance cover to a medical practitioner
• 115 insurance contracts imposing a risk surcharge.

They also reported a total of 91 instances of the following:

• complaints to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (ACFA) about refusals and risk surcharges
• withdrawals from entering a contract of insurance by a medical practitioner.
