Caring for Forgotten Australians, Former Child Migrants and Stolen Generations Information Package

This information package is a resource for service providers in the aged care sector, particularly those in residential care. The resources show how early life experiences can affect older people receiving care and help care providers respond to their needs.

Collection description

This information package is designed to inform, advise and support those who deliver aged care for Care Leavers – a special needs group under the Aged Care Act 1997.

Care Leavers spent time in institutional care or in out-of-home care, including orphanages and foster care, and include 3 distinct groups:

  1. forgotten Australians
  2. former child migrants
  3. stolen generations.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are warned that the package’s resources may contain images and voices of deceased persons.
