Residential aged care related work

We are increasing support for people with dementia and their carers through dementia-specific respite services.

This program provides funding to strategically important aged care providers facing financial viability concerns. From 1 November 2025, MAP will expand to include both residential and Support at Home providers to ensure continuity of care for care recipients. Applications are by invitation only.

Monthly Care Statements give aged care residents a summary of the care they receive and any changes or events. This monthly update helps residents and their representatives keep a record of their care, and inform ongoing conversations with their provider.

The QI Program collects information from Australian Government–funded residential aged care homes on 14 quality indicators across critical areas of care that can affect the health and wellbeing of aged care home residents. This helps to monitor and improve the quality of services.

The new Aged Care Act is strengthening Australia's aged care system. It ensures that people who access aged care services funded by the Australian Government are treated with respect and have the quality of life they deserve.

The POPI program helps Victorian residential aged care facilities to identify and address any gaps in their COVID-19 outbreak management plans. The Victorian Aged Care Response Centre runs the program.

Residential aged care is for older people who can no longer live independently at home. The Australian Government funds residential aged care to make it more affordable and accessible.

These programs help to minimise adverse medicine events for people living in approved Australian Government-funded aged care facilities. Pharmacists visit patients in facilities to identify, resolve, and prevent medication-related problems.

The experiences of older people living in aged care provide important insights into the quality of services they access. The Residents’ Experience Survey (formerly known as the Consumer Experience Interviews) enables aged care residents to tell us about the quality of their aged care.
