Global Health initiative

The Global Health initiative will provide $30 million over 10 years from 2024–25 to fund projects that improve our understanding of global health threats and how best to tackle them.

About the Global Health initiative

The Global Health initiative will provide $30 million over 10 years between 2024–25 and 2033–34 to support Australian researchers to collaborate globally to address shared challenges. This is expected to lead to:

  • a better understanding of global health threats, particularly the rise of antimicrobial resistance and drug-resistant tuberculosis
  • the identification of the best ways to address these threats
  • the development of tools to fight threats to Australia’s national health security
  • a better understanding of the health impacts of changes in climate and support the National Health and Climate Strategy.

Why it is important

This initiative will support international frameworks and capabilities through the generation of new evidence and knowledge, particularly within the Indo-Pacific region, in order to address global health and health security issues.

Objectives

The objectives of this initiative are to develop knowledge and tools to fight threats to Australia’s national health security from the regional and global challenges of antimicrobial resistance and drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Meeting our objectives

We will monitor the initiative in accordance with the principles and approach detailed in the MRFF Monitoring, evaluation and learning strategy.
