First Nations Health Worker Traineeship Program

This program supports up to 500 First Nations students to undertake accredited training in the health sector. We fund the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) to deliver the program.

About the initiative

This program aims to:

  • increase the supply of health workers and practitioners
  • address health workforce shortages in rural, regional and remote Australia
  • ensure a capable and qualified workforce.

To achieve this, we fund the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) to support training, work placements, and mentoring for health worker trainees.

NACCHO is leading the national roll out by training up to 500 First Nations health workers and practitioners. This will support the growth and sustainability of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations workforce.

NACCHO has strong relationships and systems in place with:

  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations
  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Registered Training Organisations member services
  • the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations sector.
